Unveiled began through a shared love of creating by hand.
I had been wanting to create clothing for some time, and last year I finally started. After making a robe for myself and basically living in it, I realized how much better the everyday, mundane parts of life feel when you’re in something funky, comfortable, and easy to wear. That’s when I decided I wanted to start creating for others.
I found myself in my parents’ basement more and more often (where my mom keeps her sewing machine), and I noticed she’d start hanging out with me while I sewed. I eventually asked her if she wanted to start creating these robes together — and that was that.
Knowing how much textile waste already exists in the world, it felt important to us to work with what is already here and give fabrics a second life.
This project has become a beautiful and healing way for my mom and I to connect and create together as I navigate entrepreneurship and she navigates retirement (lol).
The process has been so joyful — from thrifting together, to deciding on unexpected pattern and colour pairings, to the sewing itself. I’m always inspired by my mom’s attention to detail, which you can see in the way she constructs each robe. I come from a line of women who are incredibly talented, creative, and deeply attentive to detail.
